NICEVILLE — The Niceville Police Department ended its three-day speed enforcement campaign on April 26. The campaign was intended to curb speeding and promote smart driving on State Road 20 between Rocky Bayou Drive and Government Avenue.

Police Chief Rob Lovering announced the campaign during a City Council meeting on April 9. The campaign resulted in 77 citations, 67 for speeding. The police specifically targeted drivers exceeding the posted speed limit by at least nine miles per hour between 1 and 5 p.m.

The action, dubbed Operation Save the Day by police, led to a 40% decrease in the number of citations issued from its start on April 24 to its conclusion on April 26.

"We're trying to change people's habits," Lovering said in a release. "The initiative would have been a success if no tickets were written at all."
